Pile of the Week: 1957 Ford Anglia Squire
Spotted this one over on the 24 Hours of Lemons forums, but its not getting the attention it deserves. Besides being a very rare (for the USA) 1957 British Ford Anglia wagon, it also features a full tubular header and a canvas sunroof over the entire passenger compartment! On top of all that it belonged to Mike Dormer, a genuine So. Cal./Ocean Beach eccentric, fine artist, surfer, cartoonist and creator of a 60s kids show “Shrimpenstein”.
Perhaps his most popular creation was “Hot Curl“. Hot Curl’s story is here.
Somebody save this car! http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/3972138300.html

I’m Mike’s nephew. Thank you for helping get the word out about the ‘blue peanut’ (as he called it.). I’m very curious, who are you? Were you a friend of Uncle Mike’s?

No, I’m just a fan of odd cars and an eccentric myself. I wish I had room in my garage, I’d by this and fix it up a little and drive it to car shows and stuff. I googled Mike’s name after seeing it in the ad and read all about him. Its funny, that same day I had just been watching a documentary about Robert Williams, another cartoonist, artist, iconoclast from southern California who just happens to be better known. I’m surprised none of Dormer’s art is up at this current OC exhibition http://www.huntingtonbeachartcenter.org/exhibitions.php
