For Sale: 1949 Packard 288 ci Straight 8 Motor
Barn find Packard straight 8 motor for sale. I believe it is about 1949 (23rd series) and a 288 ci model based on the number stamped in the side (H220794). I believe it came out of a running car many years ago. I bought it from a landlord who found it in a garage to keep it from being scrapped. It has been in my garage for 10 years now.
The head had never been removed before I took it off to look inside. It turns freely, all the valves move, and it has enough oil pressure to create a mess as I was turning it over with a wrench. The bottom end (crank and rod bearings) seem to be good. The bores are clean and not rusty, though there is slight scoring in two of them. I suspect you could just hone it and put new rings on and it would run OK.
I also have a second head which had been hanging on my wall (the one with the acorn nuts and eye bolts). No intake, no exhaust, no water pump, no starter, no bell housing or transmission, but the flywheel is there.
Delivery available anywhere in Southern California for gas money there and back. Or it can be shipped via freight, but we will have to negotiate that. Email me at Parkwood60@yahoo.com
